When someone completes a task without pausing, nobody compliments the interface. That silence is the goal, and it takes more deliberate design than anything flashy.
Make the next step obvious
Every screen should answer three questions: where am I, what can I do here, and what happens next. If a screen cannot answer all three at a glance, it is doing too much.
- One primary action per view
- Labels that say what will happen, not what the system calls it
- Feedback within a tenth of a second of every tap or click
Test with people, early and cheaply
A paper sketch in front of five real users finds more problems than a week of internal debate. We do it before we open the design tool.
